Jill's World Presents...

Ten Things I Love...
Hi everyone!
My name is Jill and I’m very happy to be visiting here from my blog Jill’s World as a guest poster while Nay is on vacation!
Nay and I discovered each other’s blogs not long ago, and we have become fast bloggy friends! Isn’t she the best?!

I thought I’d take this opportunity to share 10 Things I Love so that you can get to know me a little better.

My family - Not surprisingly, this is number 1 for many of us! I honestly don’t know what I’d do without them – from my parents, to my siblings, right through to my aunts, uncles, and cousins. I’m a pretty lucky kid to come from such a great family tree. Both sides of my family have gone through some very difficult times in the past year; I’m so proud of all of them for sticking together through the dark days, and being there for one another. We’ve lost some special people – and if there’s anything good to come of that, it’s that I think we’re now stronger, tighter, and take every opportunity to show our love for one another. Family is everything.
My friends – Again – where would we be without friends? They’re always there for me when I need them – there to make me smile, or to listen to me when I need to talk, for dinner dates, movie nights, drinking games, craft nights, and book clubs. We have so much fun together! They all mean so much to me!
My bed – Ever since I got my queen-sized bed about two years ago, I’ve been in love with it. So big and comfy! After sharing a double with my sister in my younger years, then cramped up in a day bed after that, this bed is literally like being in the lap of luxury!
My iPod – My first iPod was stolen out of my car a few years ago. I had the sads. Big time. I had to save up to buy a new one as quickly as possible!! I don’t think I could pick one song as my all-time favourite, but with my iPod around, I don’t have to.
Food – That’s right. Food, in general. I love it. I could never, ever give it up. It’s why I’ll probably always be a fat girl. The quickest way to my heart is through spaghetti, pizza, Chinese Food, McDonalds, poutine, chips & dip, or cheeseburgers. Oh, and did I forget to mention that my weakness is JUNK food? *sigh*
This laptop that I’m typing on – J’adore. Don’t know what I ever did before I bought it. It makes being a blogger SO much easier!
My guitar – It’s nothing special, but it’s special to me. It was my aunt’s, and she passed it on to me when I expressed an interest in learning to play. My good ol’ Yamaha. Someday I hope to get a new one – a really nice one – but this one will always be my favourite!
Friends – No, I’m not putting my friends again – the TV show! I own all 10 seasons on DVD, and I keep them in constant rotation. I wish that show had lasted forever.
Movie theatres & Popcorn – I would go every night if I could afford it. I would see every movie ever made in theatres. I love it there. And I love movie theatre popcorn. There’s nothing quite like it.
Wade Redden – You didn’t really think I could put together a list of things I love and not include him, did you? For those of you who aren’t familiar with me and my blog, he’s my favourite hockey player since I was 12 years old. He’s a lot harder to keep track of now that he’s no longer with my team (the Ottawa Senators)– or in the NHL – but he’ll always be #6 in my program...and #1 in my heart.
Thanks again, Nay, for letting me help “hold up the fort” while you’re away! Any friend of Nay’s is a friend of mine, so feel free to come visit me at Jill’s World. You can also find my 101 Adventure blog here, and I’m on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest as well! Be sure to stop by and say hello!
Thank YOU, Jill-girl!
It's simply divine baby to know you...
Thanks for coming over : )

"Taking Over My Tuesday" Mama

I Blogging Week

Isn't it interesting how you just get to know a person and you feel like you're instantly accepted into the family and that you belong somehow?  That's what *Mama* (Tricia) does for people.  I am very thrilled to have her on my bloggy this week while I'm away...

You're on a deserted island (well, let's not make it totally deserted...just a fantasy island kinda place...) and you can bring three things with you.  What are they?
My iPhone (I’m obsessed), my tweezers (a girl’s gotta pluck her eyebrows even if there’s nobody there), and my refrigerator filled with food (hey, there was no size limit!).
Fill in the blanks
If I had known how tough it would be to travel with a toddler, I would have taken 20 more vacations before we had our daughter.
What's your favorite easy and yummy recipe for you and your family/friends? It can be any meal.
Strangely enough, my favorite recipe comes from a kid’s cookbook and it’s for a DELICIOUS taco dip with lots of gooey cheese. YUM.

...I♥BW with Mom @ Memphis and Ruby!

I Blogging Week

When I think of this bloggy buddy, I always smile...
She has been one of the most welcoming in this bloggy world...
And you know what?
I know you'll like her too!
So here we go...
You're on a deserted island (well, let's not make it totally deserted...just a fantasy island kinda place...) and you can bring three tings with you. What are they?
1. I'm going to 'lump' my family in as 'one'... There's absolutely no way I could survive anywhere without them!
2. Sunscreen (lame, I know... but better safe than sorry! Proud to be pale!)
3. A stack of good books (let's say at least 6 of them... again, I'm going to lump these all in as 'one')... that way once I got to the end of the last book, I could start over on the first.
Fill in the blanks:
I wish I had taken a photography course, because now I would/could probably be running my 'own' business or at least be doing it as more than just a very amateur hobby!

What's your favorite easy and yummy recipe for you and your family/friends? It can be any meal...
The easiest meal that the kids & I LOVE would have to be... Diet Coke Sloppy Joe's! Yum!

Word Association:
Blog= Addict
Family= Love
Crafty= Not
Love= Happy
Funny= Laugh

Using the letters of your name, describe yourself.
-->Haha!! Totally joking about that last one... I coudn't think of any othjer "a" adjectives! ;)

Describe your blog and what you see in the future for it.
It's such a mish-mash of stories of me, my life and my family... I love fashion, thrifting and photography so those pop up ALOT. I have found it to be a great outlet, and when I sit down to write a post... it's ''me'' time. It's something I do only for me & for my sanity! I'm a working mom so I'm busy and my life revolves around my kids (as it should), but those 5 or 10 minutes I can sit and link up, or share a story, or enter (or host) a giveaway does wonders for me! I hope, in the future, to find my 'niche'... although I'm pretty sure I'll always be a 'life blogger' it would be fun, to 'specialize' in something...

Thank you so much for taking over my Monday, Miss Lena!

I've also seen and read posts of joy and positivity...which makes me think, "this too shall pass..."

Book Review: Moloka'i

Moloka’i  by Alan Brennert
This richly imagined novel, set in Hawai'i more than a century ago, is an extraordinary epic of a little-known time and place---and a deeply moving testament to the resiliency of the human spirit.

Rachel Kalama, a spirited seven-year-old Hawaiian girl, dreams of visiting far-off lands like her father, a merchant seaman. Then one day a rose-colored mark appears on her skin, and those dreams are stolen from her. Taken from her home and family, Rachel is sent to Kalaupapa, the quarantined leprosy settlement on the island of Moloka'i. Here her life is supposed to end---but instead she discovers it is only just beginning.

With a vibrant cast of vividly realized characters, Moloka'i is the true-to-life chronicle of a people who embraced life in the face of death. Such is the warmth, humor, and compassion of this novel that "few readers will remain unchanged by Rachel's story" (

My Thoughts...

I can't even begin to figure out how to describe this novel.  Before I even try to do that, I want to thank my cousin in San Francisco, Tiffany, for reading this book.  If I hadn't noticed her reading it and asked her about it, I wouldn't have even known about this book!  So thanks *cuzzin*!

The first word I think of when trying to tell you about Moloka'i is...Epic.  This is a novel of just about everything you can think of that can happen in someone's life.  This novel is fiction but read like a memoir you don't want to put down.

I loved Rachel...I experienced every single situation with her - her ordeal of being taken away from the only family she had ever known, her fears, her delights, the ocean, the relationships, the people she encounters.  I don't want to give one ounce of this book away because I want you to read it.  Read it now!

Mind you, there were times I just wanted to put it down because it got a little too descriptive in parts, but all in all, I enjoyed it.  I *just* finished reading it, laughing with it, crying with the writing is very very fresh and vibrant in my thoughts.  And that, people, is exactly what I like to get out of a novel.  "It stays with me..."

I'm a little overwhelmed with how I felt about this novel and am pretty much - very - sure I will continue to read Brennert's novels about Hawaii...

Will you enjoy this?
I do truly hope so...because wouldn't it be just awful if this review wasn't completely truthful?
And that's one thing about me...
When it comes to books - I *always* tell the truth!
: )
Happy Reading!
~ Nay ~

Rating:  8 out of 10
Reason:  I don't know...but that's the number that comes to my brain...maybe because it's a little long for most people.

... thought for thursday ...

So that’s why…
I guess I have some work to do then...

WILW - Jeremiah 29:11

awesome tattoo

Happy "What I Love Wednesday"!!!
I woke up this morning after a wonderful 8 hour sleep (finally!) and this verse was the first thing I thought about:
maybe I'll put this up in cubicle at work?

I was blessed in finding Jeremiah 29:11 when I was in my 20s and it has been *my* verse since.
It reminds me that I am never alone and that everything that has happened [and will happen] is for a reason.
As I was looking for *cool* pics (from pinterest) to use for this post, I found these other three verses from Jeremiah, as well...

pretty darn powerful, huh?
I should...
I think I should make it a goal to read the book of Jeremiah before the year is over...just for I can appreciate it.

And can I tell you somethin'?
I didn't know if I should write something spiritual or religious on my bloggy.
But then I thought, this is part of me and it fulfills me.
And...I shouldn't be ashamed of I'm not going to be.
So there! : ]
~@~ Have a most *awesomest* day ~@~

Some Creative Roots...

I Spy
Hide & Seek
Happy "Talented Woman" Day!
Yes, I have found a most talented woman again in my blogging adventures!  I stumbled upon her blog by chance and am so very very thankful I did.  I think her blog is so *cool* kind of blog -
inspiring, sweet, and loving.

When I asked her if it would be okay to feature her on my bloggy, she was so very nice to say yes : ) Yay!

So without further ado...
{{drumroll please}}
r o o t s
I asked Miss Alyss to tell us a little about "About Me"-kinda thing:
Hi! My name is Alyss and here are 10 random facts about me:
My son Jude is the cutest one-year old in the world. No contest. Dimples, blue eyes, little raspy voice.
I get to eat two servings of soy pancakes a day as suggested by my nutritionist. No joke. With peanut butter.

You & Me
I started dating my husband when I was 14 and he was 15. We still like each other.
A huge passion of mine is teaching. My favorite grade so far is 2nd.
My nails are always painted. Toes and fingers, ever since I could do them myself.
I left a bit of my heart in China. I taught English there one summer and greatly miss my students.

Red Chevron Love
I'm a huge, huge, HUGE sci-fi geek.
Along the same line... Who has two thumbs and is the #1 Harry Potter fan? This girl!

I have a lot of freckles.
I entered college as a Mathematics major, switched to English, hopped over to Liberal Studies, and finally ended up in the Fine Arts.

Chevron Be Still
That last one brings us up to speed with where I am in my life right now. I like to paint. Actually, I LOVE to paint and it's always been a large part of who I am. And after having my son, it got pushed to the back-burner. Recently though, I broke the brushes back out and got back into it.
I like to work on natural wood, giving it new life. My trees are my favorites. Even while painting them, I feel a sense of serenity.
I hope you also enjoy my work!

Thank you so much, Alyss, for stopping by "Cover to Cover" and sharing your creativity with us.

and her fabulous bloggy,

Have a wonderful Tuesday!
Be blessed with all the beauty around you...

Now that I have won one, I don't have to!  I can just pass on the award!
So, without further award!!!
The Rules of the Versatile Blogger award:
