{#6} "Check Her Bloggy Out!!" {Noise with Dirt}

I am so happy to have you meet our newest blogger-ette today.
She is a remarkable mama and I always enjoy going over to her bloggy for inspiration, perspective, and smiles.
I am happy to share her with all of'll be happy I did!
so here goes...
Welcome to the newest blogger-family member of the
“Check Her Bloggy Out!!”

{{waves}}Hi. I'm MamaPhan.

I think I found Nay via #5QF and it's been blog love ever since for me. I'm pretty sure that's the case, anyway. Don't hold me to it, though, because I'm pretty sure my kids suck the brains out of me.

The blog is called Noise with Dirt mostly because I have two boys [three if you count my husband] and if there's anything I've learned in the past three years, it's that boys are most definitely noise with dirt on them.
It's even evident in my baby, and he's not quite a year old. I've kept some form of online blog since, I don't know, 1998? Not all have been public, but they're still there if I want to go looking for them. I started Noise with Dirt [originally called Phanatically Speaking] while I was still pregnant with Butter. I did a lot of sporadic posting between then and the time he turned three, including blogging about Little Bear's stay in the NICU.
I tend to blog about my kids, my husband, and my struggles with my own health. In February 2011, I was diagnosed with Moyamoya. It's not something doctors know a ton about, and my hope is that my posts about going through tests and eventual surgery will help someone else who has it. As far as my plans for the blog, I'd like to keep track of what my kids do. One of the things I deal with, having Moyamoya, is a risk of stroke. If something like that ever happens, I want to have a record of what my kids do, cute things they say, etc. to help me get through recovery.

If you want to know about the yummiest food experience I missed, it's actually a funny story. For my husband's 35th birthday, we went to a restaurant called Babbo in NYC. M has a thing for Mario Batali. And Gordon Ramsay. And Anthony Bourdain. And Alton Brown. And... well, you get the picture. So we went to Babbo for M's 35th birthday. It was a great night, and I got to wear a pretty party dress and fancy shoes my bestie helped me pick out. We decided to get the tasting menu. M raved about the venison. I couldn't taste it because I had a cold. Turns out my cold was the very first sign that Butter would make his arrival the following July.

As for things that keep me sane? There aren't a lot of them lately. There just aren't. I have a three year old, a baby who will walk any day AND is getting molars, and two brain surgeries coming up. I've become addicted to Friday Night Lights and I read a lot of books because I'm not really sleeping. [See also: two brain surgeries coming up.]

If after reading all that, you still want to read my posts, come and join my crazy party. I'd love to have you!

Thanks so much for sharing, MamaPhan!
I knew it would be great to have you here...

So everyone, if you want more "Noise with Dirt":

The real me.
The me underneath all that pleasing...
all that insecurity...
all that "yes, I'll do it - it's doesn't matter that hurts me to."
The me that is yelling deep inside there,

What I Love Lately...{Owls!}

Oh! Hey There!
How have you been?!
It's been a while...
 Well, it's been a day that I haven't posted...
But I'm having bloggy withdrawal!

...and then I got an idea this afternoon!

Which made me think about...
What I Love Wednesdays!

Which made me think how much I like "What I Love Wednesdays" with lollipops and how could I have even thought of not posting this week?!
{I know, Pidg, my strike didn't work!  I don't wanna hear "I told you so!"}

I've been swamped at work and on top of that it's a short work week at the end of the month...but I worked my bootie off on Monday and Tuesday...and you know what?!  I deserve a little somethin' that makes me happy...and
Blogging & Owls (lately) make me happy!

{#5} "Check Her Bloggy Out!!" {Royal Daughter Designs}

Good Monday Morning, My Beautiful Followers!

Welcome to
“Check Her Bloggy Out!!”

...and the newest edition to the Blogger-ette Family!

Thank you so much for being on, Amanda!
I  her blog and all the helpful hints she gives to all of us bloggers!
Please check her out!

Here she is!!!

~ A little bit about her...
Hey y'all! I'm a city girl turned country girl from Texas. The Mr. is a professor and I'm a graduate student and freelance graphic designer. In September The Mr. and I became first time "parents" to three (count 'em: one, two, three!) boys ages 10, 11, and 15. You can read about that story here. With three fur babies, three big boys, and an 8 acre farm, we're definitely living an adventure!

~ A little bit about her blogging...
I have a graphic/blog design business where I (sometimes) blog about crafty things. At Royal Daughter Designs you will find giveaways, freebie printables, and frequent guest posts. Beginning in November I will be hosting Christmas Ornament Countdown: 30 days of handmade ornaments and holiday decorations. I'd love for you to be a part of it!
~ And little more...
I also have a personal blog where I blog about the everyday adventures (and misadventures) of life.

~ Her A-Ha! moment...
I've suffered from chronic health problems (fibromyalgia + a back injury that left significant scarring in my lower back). About a year ago I decided to take responsibility for my own health and seek alternatives to prescription medication. The "Ah-Ha" moment came when I realized that I, not my doctor, am responsible for my health. I finally stepped up to the plate, and now, one year later I am completely off of all prescription and OTC medication!

~What makes her happy?
My faith.
My husband.
My 14 year old black lab.
A good book.
Cool evenings on my porch swing.

Don'tcha just love her?!

Worth Viewing...

I wasn't going to post anything else today...

But I had to share this with you.

To the survivors, the families, the ones who just found out, the ones that we've lost...the ones who will beat this thing!

Dishin' It With Chef Marco! {2}

Guess who's back to visit us?!  My favorite chef in California : )  You remember him!  I know you do...Remember his fabulously delicious recipe that I posted here ?

Yes!  It's Chef Marco!  And he's back to "dish it up" again...this one looks YUM also...I'm beginning to really like this feature : )

“Dishin’ It with Chef Marco”
Photo Credit:  Jiselle Castro (2011)
Chicken Korma
With steamed basmati rice
serves 3

1- 13.5 oz coconut milk or 2 cups
½ oz whole blanched almonds ( reserve a few for garnish)
1 Tblsp unsalted butter
2 each roma tomatoes seeded and small diced
5 garlic gloves minced
1 knob of ginger minced
1 medium onion sliced thin
1 ½ Tbls red curry paste
1 cup basmati rice
2 cups chicken broth
2 each medium chicken breast or thigh meat 1 inch dice
Salt and pepper

For Rice:
Add washed rice to small sauce pot with chicken broth.
Bring to boil, lower heat to simmer cover with lid and cook for 20 minutes

For Korma:
In food processor, add almonds and pulse until almonds are coarsely chopped.
Add ½ cup of coconut milk and puree until thick about 1 ½ minutes.
Add mixture with the rest of coconut milk in a separate bowl and set aside.
In a hot soup pot with the flame on high, add butter, ginger, garlic and onions and sauté for 3 minutes. Add chicken and brown about 8 minutes.
Poor in coconut milk mixture and lower flame to low. Simmer for about 10- 13 minutes. (If sauce is too thick, thin out with more coconut milk.)

Serve over steamed basmati rice and garnish with diced tomato and almonds.
You can also serve this dish with various vegetables on the side to get your nutrition intake for the day.  Enjoy...

Chef’s Notes:
Always try and garnish food with one of the ingredients that’s in the dish. In this case almonds.  Also, always wash your rice before cooking.

Don’t forget to sanitize your cutting board after cutting raw chicken. Sanitize with bleach... or even vinegar works!

Bon Appétit!
Thanks again to my wonderful nephew for another mouth-watering recipe...and, by the way, hey Marco!  I'm making a list of all of these recipes - you MUST cook these for me now : )

Happy Eating Friday Everyone

CopyCat Post {Thoughtless Thursday}

Pidgy , from PidgApeg, and I are doing this new thing we like to call, “copycat posting.” It’s sometimes hard to figure out what to blog about, so this is something we can do together to help us out. Last week we blogged Name Your {Joy}’s 50 Questions and it was easy and fun.
Source: None via chris on Pinterest

So this time it was PidgAPeg’s turn to figure out what to blog about on our fantabulous bloggies {well, I think they’re pretty nifty!}. Pidgy is pretty ingenious in her bloggy style, so she thought how about “total random confessions”?!
Ta-da! Here it is!

thoughtless thursday!
*You know how something is stuck in your tooth? And there’s no way it will come out? It drives me crazy! You brush your teeth, you floss…and nothing! Drives me up the wall…*

*Shirt-eating backs – so you are wearing jeans or slacks and a long-ish top and then by the end of the morning or whatever – the shirt has been eaten up by your back! What is up with that? Do you know what I mean? Or am I imagining this? Maybe it is just me – okay, I’ll be quiet now.*

*Lists, lists, lists…oh lovely lists! Writing them, crossing those items off, checking them twice, making sure who’s naughty or nice – ha! You liked that, huh?*

*One day I want someone to use my words as a quote. The quote of my actual words and someone then posts it on FB – LOL!*

*Perspective – What I think happened can be (or usually is) very different than what the other person experienced. Like that one time I sneezed – I didn’t sneeze ON you on purpose. That was just a funny “oops”, did that really just happen? : )*

Thoughtless or thoughtful – I think the latter, but pretty neat bloggy title, right?

Visit Pidgy at PidgApeg to see her thoughtless thursday post.

ps: it's not up yet, but it will be:) she's got a lot on her plate this morning!  but she's awesome and it will be up eventually (7:27am Cali-time)

Happy copycatting to you!

Apron {Comfort} Strings

~~~>What I Love Wednesday!<~~~
 The thought of aprons makes me giddy!  I think it's the thought of putting one on and baking up a storm that does it for me.  Aprons giving me comforting thoughts- a kitchen full of warmth, warm chocolate-chip cookies right out of the oven, wiping flour off of kids' noses, sticking your fingers in the empty batter bowl to get every last swipe of chocolate cake mix out of it...
Source: via Renee on Pinterest
just seeing them all organized on hooks makes everything so organized and pretty!
It's organized - and with my OCD-ish tendencies, that makes them even better : )
 I really like that I have the opportunity to open up this mind of mine every Wednesday to think of things I love...
It's a little reminder to me every week that there are some wonderful things to cherish...even if it is just aprons today.
What are you loving today?
Are you a Book Blogger? See Here!
Dear Book Blogger,
Do you want a free book in exchange for a review?  Don't worry, it's not *my* book.
I have been getting a heck of a lot of books lately by authors and I can't keep up.
Anyone want to lighten up the load for me?
I have 6 or 7 books that I've received in the last few months and I really haven't had the time to read them, much less  review them.  They all look pretty good.
If you're interested, please contact me (soriano-dot-renee@gmail-dot-com) or leave a comment!
Thank you in advance,
Tuesday 10 - It Feels So Good...
I had this awesome idea last night about what to post about.  I usually get the best ideas in either the shower or right when my head hits the pillow.  So during last night's shower, I got it {bam!}, thinking I was so original.
I get to the office this morning and go through my regular routine (check if I got email(s) from my awesomest bloggy bff, PidgApeg, coffee, workload for the day...), but then {bam! again...}I read one of Pidgy's emails and she tells me about the post she's going to write or wrote (I don't get her night emails until the morning...).
She tells me she's linking up with a bloggy gal and I'm like o.m.g.That's what i was going to write - a TOP TEN-type of thing...
So, I am now going to join the bandwagon and join a little linky party by nicole at
Here goes...
what makes me go…”awwww!”
{or just makes me feel oh so good}
My hubby
I was having a rough day at the day job yesterday and {without knowing that he would make me feel so much better} he made my night.  He bought my favorite filipino food (beef steak and pancit noodles) and rented....are you ready for this?
Edward and the hubby always make everything all good.
My son, the little love...
He has THE BEST personality and the words that come out of his mouth...he reminds me of an old man.
Of course, my mind escapes me and I can't think of anything right now, but trust me...
He'd make you say, "Oh my gosh!  Did he really say that? Awww."
Can't leave out my lovebug!
  My daughter is just...well, as Pidg would say...WONDERMOUS!  She is one awesome package of goodness.  And when she says "good night to God" every night, she always prays for me and what I really need.  She knows things...she's just cool like that!
babies and puppies
I got an email yesterday with a co-worker's dog's graduation pic from obedience
This morning, as I stalked my neice's FB photos, I saw this...
Can you all say, "Awwww!"
That's my baby godson being put to sleep by his big bro: )
This isn't an "Awwww!" moment...more like a "filled with His Grace" moment...
Listening to music inspired by Him...
I weep every.single.time
My b.f.f.l.
Although we aren't able to talk as much...when I do get a text, email, or phone call from her and she says, "I miss you..."  That is just the icing on my cake!
Being So Lucky.
I'm not talking about the lottery or giveaway prizes, but more like the lucky-ness I feel with those who love me and I just adore back.
You, My Fearless blogger-ettes!
I am taken back with some of your wonderful posts...
And the pics (See "babies and puppies") always make me go...
Awww! A lot.
The world of facebook...
It is the only way that I can keep up with the family in other states, countries...and my dearest friends that are more than family.  Going on FB and seeing that you have a message or just a "Hi!" is truly wonderful.
a book, me, and my bath...
After a long day...or even when I just need *me* time...that's where you'll find me...
Just soothing and makes everything else just go away.
Happy Tuesday
Thoughts on Motherhood
I have been a mother for 26 years. I say 26 years because I believe we are mothers before we even know our babies are growing inside us.
I am mommy to:
Ashley (25)
Kapono (23)
Saphire (22)
Aleshanee (6)
Dakota (3)
Hayden (1)
I am grandmother to:
Makana (3)
Aaliyah (2)
Kaenen (2).
I have been a…
Teenage mother
Single mother
Mother of...
A baby angel in heaven
Every stage through adulthood
TEENAGERS with raging HORMONES!!!!!
A drama queen
A special needs child
A movie star
A bride
I am also a mother-in-law and a grandmother.
If I missed anything, I know my kids will read this and set me straight. =)
You may be surprised to know, when I was a little girl, I NEVER wanted to have kids. Shocking I know. I am one that cannot stand pain and I knew I would never be able to go through childbirth.
When I was 15 I found out I was pregnant with my oldest daughter, Ashley. In all the shock, fear (of my parents), and being disappointed in myself, the one thing I knew is I wanted to keep my baby. There was not even a hint of doing anything otherwise. I had my son, Kapono when I was 18 and then my daughter, Saphire at 19.
Many years in between… 16 to be exact
5 years of unexplained secondary infertility
Fertility procedures
Fertility drugs and injections
And a heart breaking missed miscarriage (you can read about it more here) and all that goes along with that… we were finally blessed with our daughter, Aleshanee.
Then, to our total shock… we were eventually blessed with our daughters, Dakota and then Hayden.
All of this, wrapped up in 26 years this December… looking back at it all there are some days I wonder how I got here. When I read this back I am amazed to see how much I have changed, how much God has entrusted me with and how much I am blessed.
People ask me advice all the time and assume I know everything about parenting. They tell me that I must be a pro at this because I have so many kids and have been a mother for so long.
Here are some things I can share with you…
Each child is differentThey have a mind of their own
They have different needs and sometimes it happens all at the same time
They need to experience life, good and bad
They cannot be controlled
They need your undivided attention
They need to be heardThey need to be understood
They need for you to be fair to them
They need your protection
They need to feel loved and they need you to express it with words, by physical touch, and by your actions
They need to know you are proud of them
They need your support
They need to know you believe in them
One thing I know for sure… we are here for a purpose. As parents, we want to protect our children. Naturally we don’t want them to get hurt. I’m learning that we are to guide them in the right direction but ultimately God is using them for a bigger purpose. With my older kids, I tried to control their environment and protect them from everything that seemed harmful. I mean, it seems only natural that a mother would do this. My kids did not benefit from being protected in that way. I didn’t step back and allow God to work in their lives in His way. Don’t get me wrong… I believe that HE prevails no matter what I do. I do however know that I need to do things differently with my younger 3 and ultimately with all of them, including my grandchildren in the future.
I must constantly remind myself that they are here for a greater purpose. To step back and let them find what it is they are here for. To trust that the things they are going through, the choices and mistakes they make all lead to God molding them to where they need to be. When I have this understanding, I am better equipped to love them, believe in them and to support them in their Journey.
All my heart,
It's Monday!  Aren't you thrilled?!  Why?
Because it's "Check Her Bloggy Out!!" Day : )
Today's bloggerette is...
Love her!
I'm sure a lot of you will appreciate this post - it's a helpful one for any new bloggers (and some reminders for you veterans!)
So, here you go!
~ Nay ~
Hello friends & followers of Nay's!!
So nice to be here!!
My name is Lenaand I blog over at Mom2MemphisAndRuby.
I'm a happily married mom of two in my 30's, living in a small town in Quebec, Canada and I like to blog about my life, my kids, fashion, photography, books & TV. I think I have a pretty awesome sense of humor too... and I love participating in link-ups and giveaways!
I think it's wonderful of Nay to be blogging & posting for ''newbie bloggers.'' I've been at this for awhile, but started blogging more seriously at the beginning of 2011 and have just recently broken the 200 follower mark (to me, this was a BIG deal!!). For anyone looking to gain followers, my best advice would be...
Comment. A lot.
And try to build friendships at the same time... it's important to build connections with your followers and with the people & blogs you follow.
Great way to discover new blogs... and have them discover you! There are linkups for EVERYTHING. Music, crafts, recipes, random ''Q & A'' type stuff too! These are fun, and also help give you ideas about WHAT you could be blogging about.
When possible... host a giveaway! Everyone LOVES winning free stuff, right? Know the type of people you are hoping to attract to your blog, and cater to what they'd be interested in. I won Nay's 100 followers giveaway and received 2 books as my prize! One of the best giveaways I've won so far! Loved it!
Not sure if this is a way to gain followers, persay... but I love when a post includes a photo of some kind. It makes the post just ''pop'' & stand out a bit more... especially if you are writing a long post, add a few pics if you can to break it up!
Follow back.
I try to follow back EVERY person that takes the time to follow me. I think it's an act of common courtesy. I'm not saying you have to follow them forever, but seeing as they're giving you a chance... why not return the favor?
Be nice.
Like your mother undoubtedly told you... if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. Let's not bully or belittle our fellow bloggers. Many of the blogs I follow actually make a living blogging & creating for their shops... let's help them succeed!!
Be you.
Being true to yourself is the most important thing. We all love finding a blog that is honest & genuine & real. Blog about what makes you 'tick.' Your life, your passions...
All this to say that blogging can be a lot of fun... it's my favorite hobby, and it's crazy how much fun I'm having and how many awesome ladies I've become bloggy friends with! Totally worth it!
Yesterday I Remembered...
There are certain times in my day-to-day life where I am in need of something.  I don't usually know what it is until I find it.  Yesterday was one of those days.
It started with remembering the movie, "Soul Surfer."  I just kept remembering the song from the beach church scene.  I couldn't remember the actual song the worship team was singing for the life of me {but I knew I needed to}.  I emailed my girlfriend and she couldn't help {she said every song I loved, but still nothing}, she had never seen the movie...and then...
It touched me, every single part of my soul felt filled, every little hair on my arm rose up, and I teared up.
That's His power.
I don't know how He does it.  I don't question it.  I just accept it.
He just knew I needed to remember that song and remind me...what He reminded me is just between the two of us.
But I want to share it with you, too, because I feel like I'm supposed to...
Happy Friday!  It's crazy busy at work...and there's not enough hours in the day, but I had to stop by and tell you about this.   I haven't been able to look at all your bloggy posts, but I will.  I know I will because you take the time to stop by here...and it is greatly extremely marvelously appreciated.
Have a wonderful weekend,
~ Nay ~
Swirl & Swing with them...
She hangs on my cubicle wall at work...
My little reminder about *exactly* how I feel about words...
They absolutely do "swirl & swing" in this head of mine...
in the most interesting times
when I least expect it...
Words carry me and take me where only my imagination may stop me...and where does is that?
Somewhere absolutely phenomenal...
WILW: Writing Revelation Wednesday!
Pinned ImagePinned Image
What I Love Wednesday -
The Writing Edition!
I have been all over the place in my little head...figuring out how I am going to write a book...
My ideas swirl around up above my head until
It hit me!
True wonderful awesomeness: the premise of my will absolutely take me a few years to write it up.
But I have the idea!  And that makes this whole week so worthwhile.
I am excited...really excited about starting this little adventure for myself.
Pinned Image
Pinned ImageAnd I was thinking {I know, uh oh!}, even if it never sees the light of the publishing world - it will be something for my kids to read.  They'll know I never gave up and gave it a try.
And that's all that really matters, right?
Have a blessed day - may you have your "revelation" soon, too!
