coffee chat to last you another week...

Hey there.
Sit down...yes, there is fine.
Give me a sec, k?...I'm just finished brewing some coffee.'s your cup. Do you want anything else with that?
So, how are you?
Oh, I'm good...
No, really.  I'm "fine".
No, I don't really want to talk about it.
Let's just talk about you today.
What are your plans this weekend?
Oh, that'll be nice.
The kids are on spring break next week, so the hubby and I are taking the week off, too.
Yeah, it's way over due.  I think every ounce of me has been wanting a week off for a long time.
I know, right?!
Being a working momma, a wife, an employee, a "anything you need?" person is hard work, but all in all, I'm thankful.
So, how's your blog or business doing? Anything new and exciting going on with that?
Oh sure! Of course, you can promote it here!
Just shoot me an email and I'll promote the heck out of it:)
Yeah, it's soriano.renee{at}
Sure:) Think nothing of it!
So, I'm thinking I'm not going to have a lot of internet time next week.  I want to focus on the kids and hubby as much as I can while we're all off.
What do you think?
Yes, it'll be nice to be "unplugged".
Of course...I'll be back.
You know there are other blogs you can read while I'm away, too.
Yes, I read all those blogs on my sidebars.
Yes, both sides.
I promise, you'll love them too.
Oh, you have to go? so soon?
Oh, thank you.  It'll be a nice week.
Yes, I'll miss you, too.
Thank you, I needed that.
Bye sweetie!
See you soon!
linking up with Ms. Alissa...and it's her birthday today:)  Happy Birthday, Coffee Chic:)

{#28} "Check Her Bloggy Out!!" {Finding My Way in Texas}

Happy Monday Lovelies,
Ready for another dose of my
This lovely chickadee is sure to make you smile.
Have fun getting to know
Ms. Jennifer
Finding My Way in Texas
I'm sure you'll like her as much as I have!
Take it away, girl!
Howdy Ya'll! I'm Jennifer, the blonde mind behind Finding My Way in Texas. Yes I'm blonde, and yes I have gotten lost a few times on the back roads of Texas, but mostly I write about fitting into my new life, my recent marriage and my crafty adventures. Hopefully soon I'll be adding DIY Renovations to the mix :) I'm a chocolate loving, coffee addicted, book devouring, fabric hoarder! Most of the time I can be found puttering around the local thrift stores, hanging out at my favorite old-timey soda fountain shop, chained to my sewing machine or experimenting in the kitchen.
My Most recent obsession is quilting, and the reason I am often chained to my sewing machine (click the picture to be taken to the post).

I also crochet lots of things, some of them I sell and some I give to friends and charities.

I’m opening a new online store for all my creations called LoneStar Lovlies! I’ll be announcing the grand opening soon on my blog and Facebook.
Tell me about an eye-opening experience…
When I was 16 I had the opportunity to go to Romania with an organization called Teen Mania. It was the most intense, crazy, miraculous, life-changing 2 months of my life. That country marked me. We did a lot of work in gypsy camps and orphanages. As a group we saw miracles and lives changed forever. For me personally, it was the children that stole my heart. There were 3 in particular that I was ready to smuggle back home to keep as my own. One of the coolest things about the trip was the timing of it. I was there in the summer of 2000, and the country was getting ready for its first democratic election since the fall of communism in 1989. All the churches were celebrating 10th anniversaries. It was an incredible experience and I know what someday I will get to go back.
What one thing keeps you sane and happy?
I read. I read A LOT! I easily go through 3-5 books a week. Ever since I was young I’ve loved to read. For me it’s a chance to “escape” to another place. Being sent to my room was never a punishment cause I always had a stack of books waiting to transport me to where ever I wanted to go. There is nothing I love more than curling up with a good book, a cup of coffee and getting lost in a book for hours at a time. Of course life usually intrudes and requires me to clean something or cook something or wash laundry… you know… the boring bits of life! I don’t mind too much though, cause the book is still there when I’m done and can jump right in where I left off.
Thanks for having me Nay!

Preachin' Over Some Café {yeah, just another Friday...}

Well, Good Morning Sunshine!
Take a seat, kick up your feet, and relax a bit, won't ya?
It's so nice to see you.
Happy Friday!

Is it just me or has it been a weird week?
It may just be me - :)
I feel like my week started yesterday after being home
{all sicky icky}...
Monday through Wednesday wasn't fun and it was really nice to get back to the routine yesterday.
Coffee, Bloggin', know the regular stuff.

So how are you?
You've been on mind all week.
Remember at the start of the year when I mentioned Empowerments?
I had to look back on mine and remind myself about them.
I had forgotten my secret goal for the year:
I want to always empower you{or at least inspire you}to be the best you can be.
I sometimes wish I had the power to set all your fears loose and tell you to, "Just be You."
No excuses.
No apologies.
You know what I mean?
I want to help you{and me, more than anything}know when it is okay to do things for yourself and be okay with what others think about it.
'Cause you know what?
{and yes it's hard to follow this...I'm really great at preaching it, by the way}
It Doesn't Matter What They Think.
What matters most is that you think You Are Awesome.
{Yes, I'm just preaching this to myself right now...but thanks for listening...}
At the end of it all, we are here for each other, right?
What matters is that we can share that cup of coffee
and lift each other up when we need it.
Make each other laugh.
Listen to the funny things that happened this week...and some of the not-so-funny-but-only-you-would-understand kinda stuff.
You know,
be friends...

Just because I don't know you doesn't mean anything...
You're here.
And that's Really What Matters.

Oh Crapola!
I forgot to offer you coffee!
Want some now?

ps: Or you can always grab another cup at
Rags to Stitches...

Blog Positivity Giveaway {with After Nine to Five Decor!}

Hi Loves,
After being ill for the past three days, I am back with the living {well, kinda}!  Being sick, especially this week of all weeks, was definitely not in the plan.  I had so much to talk to you about for Ashley's
I always want to keep you all positive and empowered in this journey through blogging.  Being sick this week made me so sad.  Laying in bed, sniffling and coughing, didn't make me feel that positive at all.
But then, I remembered that I had something special planned for you and that made me feel better.

Look at these prints? What do you think?

These are just a few of my favorites from Ashley's After Nine to Five Decor shop!
{My birthday is next month - hint hint}

Aren't they great?!
And, guess what?
Ashley is here today...
Hi there!
I'm Ashley from After Nine To Five - a lifestyle blog where I talk about my journey through life with self-employment, food, and photography. I also own a shop called After Nine To Five Decor where you can find tons of fun prints and wall decals to decorate your home with. and that's not all! She's giving away two prints of your choice to one of you! {Or maybe one for you and one for a friend - now that's positive thinking...}

sick...happy & content.

As I lay here in bed with my cup of tea and the laptop...getting over the last stretch of being sick...I can't help but be happy.
I know, right?  How can I be happy while I've been coughing up a lung, using every toilet paper roll for my nose, and trying to regulate my breathing without an inhaler?
Even though I've been sick for the past 3 days, I'm happy.
I'm happy that I have people to make me smile.
I have people who text me to see how I'm feeling.
I have others who are sending me emails...
I'm just content.
That's what blogging does for me.
I don't need a lot.
My laptop, some tea, and, well...
Thanks - I'm feeling better.
I get to go back to work tomorrow and get life to normal again.
Miss you guys.
ps:  Have you linked up with Ashley for her "Blog Positivity Week"?

It's a Date...

Find out what the lovely Emily, Lena, Megan, Nay, Hope, Erika, Alisha and Brooke are looking forward to as the snow melts (if you even got any) and the tulips start to bud!

One of the very best parts of blogging is meeting all kinds of new and wonderful bloggers!
The endless creativity, support and friendships to be found are such a fantastic surprise.

I'm Brooke from A New View 365. I've created this new monthly feature as a way to bring the lovely ladies of blog land together just for you!  If you would like to join in the fun next month click HERE for details!

{#27} "Check Her Bloggy Out!!" {The Mrs.}

Good Morning...
Today didn't start very well, I'm home with a sick little girl.  My daughter has a fever:(
Thankfully, I can take time to be with her because I have someone new for you to meet...
and here she is!

The newest blogger-ette to join the family for
Who is she?
and what's her bloggy about?
Over at The Mrs is where I escape. I escape into a world full of dreams, plans, and truth. My blog is an extension of me, and I love blogging. I host a linky party every Monday where I am transparent about my faith. Sometimes it's inspirational, and sometimes I need inspiration and encouragement. The hottest feature currently is my Mommy Thoughts Thursday. On Thursdays I ask questions about being a mommy. Seeing as I only have a few weeks left in this pregnancy, there won't be many more, but I do plan on revisiting these questions and telling my readers about my learning experiences. I enjoy crafting and redoing furniture. I also have a shop that I will feature often and share discount codes. Soon, I'm sure it will be a place to dump all my mommy bragging photos of my little one :)

No Way Can I Miss This....

Good Morning Sweeties!!
I know I am blogging somewhere else this morning, but
I can't *not* have coffee with you on Fridays...
It's our thing, you know?
Fridays wouldn't be complete with our Friday morning coffee dates!

So, how would you like your coffee today?
You get to choose!
Source: via Renee on Pinterest

Isn't that just the cutest?
So, I think I'm going to take an Irish one with an extra shot, if that's okay...
I definitely need it.
Did I tell you that this time change is killing me this week?!
I don't like waking up in the dark - I think that's what it is.
And, I've been talking to my phone alarm every morning.
"Okay, okay, I'm getting up..."
{Funny, I know...}

How have you been dealing with it?
It's been nice around 5pm's still super light out, so I feel happy about that.
I'll get used to it eventually - I just like to complain about it a little.
I didn't want to forget this...
{'cause I always forget to tell you stuff and then think, "remember to tell them next time..." and then I don't.  A vicious cycle, I tell ya...}
Next week is going to be so cool!
Isn't that just neat?! Check out what it's all about here.
I love the empowerment that Ashley promotes on her blog.  I am so proud to be participating:)
I hope you will, too:)

One more thing before you have to head off...
Did I tell you that I'm in love?
I have fallen hard for two things I found this week
{wait, who am I kidding? I've fallen for A LOT of things this week!}
But, no, it's real this time!
Look at these!!!!
Source: via Renee on Pinterest

and this...

and, oh wait...just one more!
Source: via Renee on Pinterest

Aren't they just...
{Yeah, I like to dream through the world of Pinterest...wait, you don't?! ha! yeah, right...}
Okay, okay...I know you have to go.
You have a billion and one things to do today.
And as always, I'm just procrastinating 'cause I don't wanna do my billion and one things...
But I'll let you go....
But not before this
{insert hug here}
{whispered in your ear}
"You are a wonderful person.  Don't forget."
See you next week.
I'll try to have that naughty-ish food next time:)

Swappin' Posts w/ My Fave Cailín, Lacey {Little Miss Nerd Girl}

Hi My Lovelies,
Today I'm swapping posts with Lacey (Little Miss Nerd Girl).  She's over here this morning sharing a little St. Patrick's Day goodness while I'm at her place doing the same.

Take it away, Ms. Lacey!
xoxo's to you all!

Hello Cover to Cover and Everything in Between readers!
My name is Lacey and I am the blogger behind Little Miss Nerd Girl.
When Nay and I agreed to guest post for each other in March I was super excited for two reasons:
one, I love Nay's blog and her love of books and writing;
and two, I could write about my crazy Irish family since St. Paddy's Day was coming up!

So, first things first, a little background:
We started calling St. Patrick's Day "St. Paddy's Day" after my brother, Padraic Murphy (Paddy for short), was born. I'm not going to divulge my maiden name, but just know with the addition of our last name there is no doubt that he's of Irish heritage toting a name like his. Growing up we spent a lot of time with my dad's family. His dad, my grandfather, is the son of Irish immigrants, so St. Paddy's Day has always been a big deal for our family. The holiday was as big as, if not bigger than, Easter for us. We'd always gather for huge dinners of corned beef, potatoes, cabbage, carrots, bread and dessert. The food is not what I remember about the gatherings though, in fact, I don't like corned beef at all. What I remember from our St. Paddy's Day dinners is my grandpa. He'd always have a little something to drink and by the time dessert rolled around he'd be standing at the end of the table singing old Irish songs. My grandmother would be seated next to him, staring up at him adoringly. He still (sometimes) does this today, though my grandmother is no longer here to sit beside him and I am no longer in California to take part in the St. Paddy's day dinners.
My grandpa, backstage before one of his musicals.
Growing up in my big, Irish, family was a lot of fun and I have a sense of Irish pride from it. I'm sure a lot of people assume I'm Irish from my red hair (even though I get that from the Scot in me) and if you didn't assume it, I will tell you. Ha ha. One of my dreams is to go to Ireland and see the places my great grandparents lived and I hope to make it a family trip so all my kids can see where their roots started too.

That's about half the grand kids (the other half was not born yet). From left to right: my sister, Chelsea, me holding my cousin, my sister Kristin holding our cousin, and my brother, Paddy holding another cousin.

In honor of St. Paddy's Day I wanted to share a quick Irish recipe with you. It's called Boxty, which is an Irish potato pancake. There is a little poem that goes along with it,
"Boxty on the griddle, boxty on the pan, if you can't make boxty, you'll never get a man."
So, if you're looking for a man, you might want to get to making this ASAP. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture for the recipe because I have not made it since I started blogging and obsessively photographing my food. :)
1 ½ cups grated raw potatoes
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup mashed potatoes (leftovers are great!)
1 egg
1 tablespoon of milk
salt and pepper to taste
oil for frying
1. Mix the grated potatoes with the flour in a large bowl. Stir in mashed potatoes and combine.
2 . In a separate bowl whisk together the egg and milk.
3. Add milk and egg mixture to potato mixture and combine.
4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
5. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
6. Drop in the boxty mixture, forming patties about 2-inches in diameter.
7. Fry until golden brown on both sides.
8. Pat with a paper towel to remove some of the oil.
9. Serve warm and enjoy!
That's it.

Let me know if you try out your hand at Boxty
and I hope you have a fun (and safe)
St. Patrick's Day!

A Date with Spring - wanna join me?

Can you feel it?
The change in the air...
That little spring in your step...
The sun shining on your face when it's not terribly hot or chillingly cold...
Everything just feels good.

No, not yet?
Well, I'm hoping you will soon.
I, for one, cannot wait.
Spring is almost here!
In California, there's never really a "winter".
We don't get snow in the city
{maybe hail here and there when rains extra hard}
and we definitely don't have "seasons" like everywhere else in the country.

But when Spring is on its way in...
...I don't know.
I just love life a little more.
Spring means I get to look forward to
everything in bloom...

I'm not talking about flowers, really.
It's really just my mood.
I just feel lighter and happier.

Does this upcoming season do that for you too?
{Wait, maybe it's just me...oh please tell me it's not just me!}

So, hurry on up calendar.
I want it to be March 21st!
Let’s get this Spring "sprung" already…
you liked that, huh? :)
