What's "this" all about anyway?

This is what happened to me last night after reading this post and this post
{truthfully, I only read two, maybe three, of the bullet points from their posts.}
Both posts were ones that I wish I had read before I started blogging.  They are so very well written and thoughtful and informative, but they freaked me out a little too.

I started this blog on a whim.  I had no idea what would develop out of it or where I would be in a year.  Really, I didn't even think I'd last a year on here.
See, I'm a "two-eeker".  As in I only keep to things for two weeks and then I usually get bored.
Exercise? Two weeks.
Eating Healthy?  Two weeks later I'm eating Twinkies!
Journal everyday?  Two weeks is an accomplishment.
You get the picture.

So now a year later into this bloggy adventure and I am floored!  I am still doing this.
"This" has no direction.
"This" has no niche.
"This" has just thoughts and quirkiness from its author.
So my question is, what is "this"?

When you think of "Cover to Cover...and Everything in Between", how would you describe it?  What makes you come back, you wonderful loyal readers?
I'm not fishing for compliments but I kinda need your help with this.
Why?
Because, that's why!
No, for reals - both of those posts eluded to one certain fact:
What is your blog about and stick to it.
{Or at least that's what I got after a couple of bullet points...I promise to read it later and then embarrassingly post again and say, "Oh!  I should've kept reading..."}

And, also I'm asking this because I'm going to the Elevate Blog Conference in June and I know I'm going to be asked about my blog.  How do I know this?
  • First, duh! it's a blog conference - that's what everyone will be talking about.
  • Second, last time I went to bloggy thing, other bloggers asked, and what did I do? I stood there with a blank expression on my face.  {I pretty much just said, "um, I just blog." WRONG ANSWER!}
So really,  maybe those posts freaked me out and spiraled all kinds of other thoughts last night...but thank goodness for those thoughts!!!
I needed to see them and absorb them (thanks Live Laugh Rowe & A Beautiful Mess!!)

After a year of blogging, I still question myself about what I'm doing here.  I know, first and foremost, I just enjoy the ride...
{I have a feeling I'm going to be on this ride and you'll be coming aloing with me.  Because if I have all these questions, I'm sure you do too, right?  We'll help each other, I promise.}
...but maybe I should figure out the destination?

Yeah, so that's why I didn't sleep much last night.
Good Grief.

Couple things:
a. you are ridiculously caring, nurturing and compassionate to all of your readers... You actually care about what they have to say - and read their blogs too!

b. you are entertaining! :)

c. there is something about this lil blog of yours that is welcoming, friendly, and sucks you in :) It's YOU - you're genuine, honest, creative and BRILLIANT!

I love ya,
M.

I love your blog. You're honest, super friendly, funny and thoughtful. I always get something from your posts. I don't think that all blogs have to fit into one specified category. You're rockin' it! =)

My opinion (and I write a little about this tomorrow on TFT) is I no longer give two cents about anyone elses advice on blogging - no matter how big their blog is. The blogs I love most and follow loyally don't necessarily fall into a certain 'classification' and neither does mine. My philosophy is be who you genuinely are and people will come and love you. And that's why we love you! Because you're genuine, sincere and honest! Forget the rules! Be a rule breaker!!!

Nay your blog promotes, highlights, empowers and embraces women. You share your honest struggles with everyday conflicts of work, family and time for yourself with us in ways that are both entertaining and informative at times. Maybe your blog does not have a "niche" but it has an exuberant personality that leaves a smile behind when I read what you share with us.
I am with Amanda, break the "rules", it works!

Hugs,

Jackie

Nay
If I had to describe your blog to someone I would say it's thoughtful. I know that I keep coming back to see what wisdom you have to share. You also post about real issues and things that are on your mind. It helps me know I'm not the only one with those struggles.

You always seem to know just what I need to "hear" :)

You are also a huge supporter of others and that is awesome! You do it so genuinely as well and not in any kind of self serving way like a handful of others do.

Your blog is thought provoking, encouraging, uplifting, and inspiring. It's like that perfect cup of coffee in my day... and you know that means you're important!

I have a 3-day weekend the weekend of the 9th, and I'm not gonna lie... it is soooo tempting to join you for this conference. Except then I wouldn't be able to go in July... so now I'm confused. Spend 2 amazing days in bloggy land with you? Or come out later and spend 2 days getting to hang out with you and V wherever we want, but with less bloggy goodness???

I feel the same way. I'm new to blogging and I love it so far but feel out of place sometimes! You have a cute blog though! You have a new follower :).

First off, THANK YOU for sharing those two posts. I enjoyed reading them. However, my blog is turning 2 in August and I still have no idea what my blog is about. Seriously.

What I have learned is that I wasn't true to myself the year and a half I've been blogging because it's hard not to get caught up in numbers, followers, pageviews, etc. The moment I got caught up with all the crap, I got burnt out and wasn't enjoying blogging, at all.

Now I know what I want to blog about and what direction I want to take my blog, but if you were to ask me what specific focus my blog has, I would tell you it has none. I simply want to blog about whatever I feel like at the moment. If people happen to read, then Yay! If not, it sucks but at least I'm happy with what I'm blogging about. KWIM?

So my advice is to stay true to yourself. Don't blog for your audience, blog for you!
